The French National Rugby League LNR announced NFT platforms with Web3 Bamg Sports and LegendaryPlays

The French National Rugby League (Ligue Nationale de Rugby) has just announced the launch of two NFT projects in partnership with Web3.0 companies, Bamg Sports and LegendaryPlays. The launch of this league-wide NFT project will bring Web3.0 experience to fans of TOP 14 and PRO D2, the two French rugby club divisions.

Bamg Sports’ OVAL3 is announced as the official NFT card platform, while LegendaryPlays will become the official NFT Video Platform for the French Top 14 and Pro D2 rugby championships, including the 30 participating professional clubs (14 clubs in the 1st division; 16 in the 2nd division) and over 1,460 professional players.

Founded in 2020, Bamg Sports is a London-based game studio, known in France for its massively popular Web2.0 game called Fantasy Rugby World. Bamg Sports has collaborated with Web3.0 companies like ERA2140, Markchain, and Pyratz Labs to launch the OVAL3 web3.0 game.

OVAL3 aims to bring rugby fans into the world of Web 3.0 and provides a unique immersive experience where you can collect cards from your favourite players, participate in online competitions, and earn ranking-based rewards.

According to the OVAL3’ roadmap on its official website, it will have a token sale, marketplace reveal, and launch party by the end of this year, when fans can experience this Web3.0 gaming platform to collect official NFT cards of TOP 14 and PRO D2 players, as well as additional booster accessory cards.

Legendary Plays, which is the official NFT Video Platform for LNR, will offer 3D NFT clips of iconic gameplay, scores, and special moments of all the clubs in the current season. Apart from that, fans can also access digital 3D video captures from the TOP 14 since 1998 and the PRO D2 since 2008.

Both of these Web3.0 companies were granted a three-season multi-year licence agreement, and LNR hopes to enrich the experience of rugby fans through this collaboration.

This year, there has been a lot of collaboration between blockchain and cryptocurrency firms and various sports entities, especially rugby. Recently, Hong Kong-based global cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx has been announced as the official cryptocurrency trading platform partner of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, and many players of the Australian and New Zealand National Rugby League have also launched their own NFT collectibles.

Both the NFT Card and the Video Platform will be on the Tezos blockchain, an economically accessible blockchain known for being environmentally friendly and very affordable (cheap gas fees). Due to its proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism, minting an NFT on Tezos is very energy-efficient (by a factor of about 1.5 million compared to minting an NFT on Ethereum), hence this greener and cheaper blockchain has been very popular amongst creators and big brands.

In December last year, Tezos became the official blockchain partner for UK-based F1 racing team Red Bull Racing, and was chosen as the blockchain for French video game company Ubisoft’s NFT Marketplace platform—Ubisoft Quartz.
